Heating Mochi after New Years in Japan: 

We stayed in a traditional Japanese house in Hattoji, with paper screen walls and doors and a thatched roof.  There was a cauldron bath and an open hearth where Mauro-san (the care taker) gave us New Years Mochi to toast on the fire. This was a thankyou card I made for her!
